The Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre is very pleased to announce that the Cardinal Family Matching Gift Challenge continues. All the funds raised through our appeals this year will be matched 100% to support new and innovative projects at the Care Centre. And even more, James Cardinal and his sons Jimmy Cardinal and Andrew Cardinal have increased their matching gift to a total of $50,000, which is $10,000 more than last year.
“I strongly believe that we all want to make a difference and that together we can achieve more than each of us alone. My sons and I have decided to increase our family’s Matching Gift because of its many good results in the previous two years. We are happy that our community appreciates and supports the Matching Gift Challenge and that the Care Centre does a great job in putting the funds to good use right away to benefit the lives of their residents. My sons and I feel fortunate to have the ability to give and we also feel equally fortunate and very proud to be part of such a great community who knows how to come together for a great cause.”
The Care Centre is profoundly grateful to James Cardinal and his sons Jimmy Cardinal and Andrew Cardinal for their outstanding generosity and commitment to our seniors.
“The Cardinal Family Matching Gift is very special to us in many ways. It has been very inspiring for our community as more people supported us and increased their donations, with many sharing enthusiastically their deep appreciation of the Gift Challenge. All this allowed us to tackle a huge financial challenge, i.e. the much needed replacement of our entire roof. As well, we were able to grow our capacity as an organization and undertake larger-scale projects to improve the quality of care to our residents.
The Cardinal Family Matching Gift is also very special for me on a deep personal level as a member of our community and as a parent as well. The Cardinal Family Matching Gift is a family gift, showing how values of generosity and compassion are passed down from one generation to another. This is a very inspiring example to me, and I believe to many others as well”, says Irena Dounets, Executive Director.
This year, with the Cardinal Family Gift Challenge, we have taken on building an accessible community garden, and the start of this project has been truly exciting with residents and volunteers planting and tending to flowers, herbs and vegetables in accessible raised planters.
But we still have a way to go. We have more outdoor spaces to turn into a beautiful garden and ensure that all areas are safe for wheelchairs and walkers. To support the Community Garden, click here
