The cost of long-term care are shared by the resident and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The governement pays for the care, some medications, food and programming you receive, but you must pay for the accommodation costs, as shown below. The accommodation rates are adjusted periodically by the Ministry and are standard across Ontario.
The table below provides the new rates that will be effective as of July 1, 2017.
Residents who do not have enough annual income to pay for the basic room, the government can help you through a subsidy that will bring the cost down to a level residents can afford. The subsidy is not available to people requesting semi-private or private rooms. Your Central Local Health Integration Network Care Coordinator can provide you with information about applying for a rate reduction subsidy. If you are eligible for placement in a long-term care home, you will not be refused because of an inability to pay.
